Switzerland's TOP security startups 2020

20.10.2020 09:03 Isabelle Mitchell

The TOP 100 Swiss Startup Award ranking has become a benchmark in Switzerland’s startup ecosystem. To make sure the startups get all the attention they deserve, we will feature the top startups in each vertical. The innovative solutions of Switzerland’s TOP security startups 2020 ensure that digital data, networks, and digital assets are protected, secured, and trustworthy.

Every year, the 100 most innovative and promising Swiss startups are picked by a panel of 100 leading investors and startup experts. Each jury member nominates 10 Swiss startups that are less than five years old and show the greatest commercial potential. The first-placed company gets 10 points, the second 9, and so on. All these individual rankings are compiled to generate the final TOP 100 Swiss Startup Award ranking, which recognizes the startups that have most impressed all 100 jury members. In the coming weeks, we will look at the top startups in each vertical.

1. Exeon Analytics
Exeon Analytics, an ETH spin-off and a Venture Leader Mobile 2020, protects enterprise IT landscapes through AI-driven security analytics. The alarm system of the Zurich-based cybersecurity startup is designed as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution, and no sensor or hardware installation is required to begin operation in a network: ExeonTrace leverages the existing infrastructure to quickly detect and eliminate cyber threats.

2. PXL Vision
PXL Vision’s software enables the digital identification of people thanks to the use of artificial intelligence. All it needs is a smartphone and a passport. In the Swiss home market, SwissID, banks, and large telecommunications providers are already customers. The multi-award-winning ETH spin-off gained seed funding of CHF 4.6 million this year.

3. Futurae Technologies
Secure logins can be complicated and are not always secure. The authentication process developed by Futurae Technologies, an ETH spin-off, is secure and simple. Banks, insurance companies, and other service providers, in particular from the healthcare sector, use Futurae’s technology. International growth is now being driven forward through collaboration and partnerships with key players in the European markets.

The best security startup according to the TOP 100 Public Vote

The TOP 100 Public Vote runs parallel to the expert jury ranking and allows the public—everyone with a LinkedIn account can cast one vote—to choose the most promising startup.

Security winner Public Vote: Cysec
Cysec, located in the EPFL Innovation Park, has developed a scalable security solution called ARCA, which stores sensitive data and runs critical software. Thanks to partnerships with global industry leaders in financial services, IoT, space, and telecommunications, the startup is experiencing strong growth; for example, it is developing a security solution to protect shipping communications on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA).
