The most promising Swiss Medtech startups and scale-ups of 2024, according to investors

The 100 most innovative and promising Swiss startups are picked by a panel of 100 leading investors and industry experts and are revealed at the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Award. This year, the Medtech sector has 13 representative startups in the TOP 100 Swiss startup ranking (including 1 in the TOP 10 and 2 in the scale-up ranking). The annual ranking of the TOP 100 Swiss Startups has become a benchmark in Switzerland’s startup ecosystem—and beyond. Every year, a panel of 100 leading investors and startup experts chooses the 100 most innovative and promising Swiss startups. Each jury member nominates 10 Swiss startups that are fewer than five years old and show the greatest commercial potential. They assign 10 points for the first place and one point for the tenth place. The companies with the most points make it into the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Ranking.

Vaud-based Artiria Medical is developing novel instruments for removing blood clots in the brain. “A classic medtech application at the interface of medicine and engineering,” says Patrick Griss, co-founder and partner at Zühlke Ventures. The only two years younger (founded in 2021) Avelo from Zurich used findings from nano- and materials technology to develop a device for the early detection of respiratory diseases. NanoFlex Robotics is going one step further: the team led by CEO Matt Curran integrates its hardware for the treatment of stroke patients into an IT environment that allows remote interventions. Patrick Griss has high hopes regarding the integration of robotics, the cloud, and AI: “New horizons are constantly opening up for medical technology.”

Adiposs is developing ImageBAT, the first product to detect and image brown adipose tissue. ImageBAT is a non-invasive drinkable contrast agent for a standard CT scan widely available in hospitals worldwide.

CustomSurg addresses the unmet clinical need to know fixation stability, by changing subjective treatments into data-driven, objective surgeries. The Medtech startup's MVP provides pre-operative planning (software) for the superior use of standard implants.

Terapet is developing an innovative platform technology with integrated solutions for imaging in nuclear medicine, bringing proton therapy, nuclear imaging and precision medicine to the next level.

TWIICE, #70
TWIICE helps to overcome human physical limitations that result from spinal cord injury and stroke. TWIICE One is the world's most advanced powered exoskeleton, enabling its users to stand up and walk again, with the benefits of real-life walking therapy. 

Bottneuro, #82
Bottneuro provides a fully personalized neurostimulation therapy based on each patient's MRI data. The Medtech startup's device allows neurologists and psychiatrists in Switzerland, the UK, and the EU to prescribe it for Alzheimer's, stroke, epilepsy, depression, and psychiatric disorders.

All startups that are no older than five years and listed on startup.ch are eligible to participate. Each person with a LinkedIn profile has one vote, and the company with the most votes win. The TOP 100 Swiss Scale-up Ranking includes companies that are between 5 and 10 years old and have the greatest potential to become future Swiss unicorns. A growth jury of 25 investors selects the TOP 100 Swiss Scale-ups: Each jury member names five scale-ups and awards points similar to the startup ranking.
