The 14th edition of the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Award celebrated Switzerland's best startups according to a 100-person strong jury: DePoly (1st), Corintis (2nd), and Yokoy Group (3rd) lead the ranking. The event took place in Lausanne and was attended by a curated audience comprising startup founders, investors, and key partners of the TOP 100. Additionally, the award ceremony was broadcast live to worldwide viewers. The 14th edition of the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Award was organized by Venturelab, in collaboration with its presenting partner UBS, and gold partners SIX and Swiss Venture Club.

In 2011, Beat Schillig and Jordi Montserrat had a vision: to create a ranking that would highlight the most promising Swiss startups internationally. Under the leadership of program director Stefan Steiner, the award has evolved into a benchmark that includes a series of comprehensive activities to support the TOP 100 Startups.

A strong and networked community has come together under the umbrella brand TOP 100 Startups, which provides deep insights into the latest proven innovations, strengthens networks, and establishes new business relationships for and with the 593 Swiss high-tech startups featured in the ranking over the past 14 years. Many former startups are now Swiss Unicorns, such as Climeworks, GetYourGuide, MindMaze, On, Scandit, and Sophia Genetics. So far, these award-winning startups have created 20,198 jobs and raised CHF 14.4 billion—87 exits, and 9 IPOs top off the achievements of these entrepreneurs.

The TOP 100 Swiss Startup Ranking showcases the 100 Swiss startups with the greatest potential. A jury of one hundred startup investors and experts select the 100 startups that are not older than five years. The podium places in the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Ranking 2024 come from three different sectors: cleantech, engineering, and fintech.

"The ranking reflects the strength of the Swiss startup ecosystem and showcases the diversity and strong high-tech background," says TOP 100 program director Stefan Steiner. "As we face the challenges of our time, the future belongs to those who dare to innovate and lead.”

Cleantech has 16 representatives in the TOP 100 confirming a positive momentum that began several years ago with Climeworks and is even stronger in 2024 with DePoly in first place. Gina Domanig, the most experienced and successful cleantech investor in Switzerland, confirmed the cleantech trend in her keynote speech.

“As an investor, I've learned five lessons to succeed in Cleantech: you need industry experts on your team, focus on growing sectors, prioritize sales, manage cash carefully, and choose investors who can help you break even quickly,” highlighted Gina.

Pollution prevention, renewable energy generation, increased efficiency, decarbonization, net zero by 2025, and the circular economy are topics that are the focus of the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Magazine 2024. The magazine is published in English, German, French, Chinese, and Japanese.
